Kids Get Arthritis Too -- It Can Be Crippling and Blinding

*** You still have time to give! All funds donated in May 2009 will still count towards Gabrielle's goal! Please, please donate anything! ***

[05/02/09-Walk Day Update:] Wow! What an experience! Thanks to all donors and every team member! It was also great to see 28 JA teams! Gabrielle's Vision pushed hard to make our goal today -- but we still have a little ways to go. Fortunately, all donations this month count towards our goal! If we knew your donations to the Arthritis Foundation in Gabrielle's name didn't get *multiplied* back to Gabrielle and children like her, we would not be so vocal about our requests. While our goal is high it is nothing compared to what the Arthritis Foundation does for Gabrielle and the JRA-uveitis kids we love so much. Please help!

[March '09-Gabrielle's Words:]
My name is Gabrielle. I am six years old. I just lost my first tooth. I have arthritis. The worst thing about having arthritis is having it. I also have uveitis which means I have cells in my eyes. I have to take eye drops and shots. I hate shots. Please help us from getting more shots.

[April '09-Important Update from Gabrielle!]
I lost another tooth! I am now seven years old. I have shot-a-phobia. Please help the uveitis kids! Thank you for donating!

[05/02/09-Walk Day update from Gabrielle!]
It was a great walk but I am tired. I have to focus on [swallowing] my pills right now - yuck. I will give you words tomorrow.

[March '09-Gabrielle's Vision Team Words:]
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), commonly referred to as Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA), is an autoimmune disease that attacks healthy tissue in children's joints. There is no cure yet.

Uveitis is an inflammation of the uveal tract in the eye which includes the iris. JIA-related uveitis is a chronic disease that attacks healthy tissue in children's eyes. The odds of your child getting Juvenile Arthritis are 1 in 1000. The odds of your child getting JIA-related uveitis are 1 in 10,000. There is no cure yet.

Fifty years ago a child diagnosed with JRA-related uveitis had a 50% chance of going blind. Today that percentage is down to 10%. While there is still no cure, great strides have been made in treatments. Please help these children get the proper care. Please donate to the Arthritis Foundation today in honor of Gabrielle. We can do it with your help!
